Taster Days at Alton School 

Choosing the right school for your family is a significant decision, and at Alton School, we understand that it’s both an emotional and financial commitment. We are here to support you in making the best choice.

Although it is important for the whole family to see the school in action at Open Days and School visits, you cannot beat the experience of sampling school life in person. By spending a full day or even two days with us in school your child can get a much better sense of what lies ahead and crucially whether they feel happy as part of our community. 

Join us for a Taster Day 

To show pupils what life is like at Alton School, we invite them to Taster Days before joining us. We want them to experience for themselves what a happy, safe, supportive place Alton School is and how we educate to get the best out of everyone.  

Calendarised Taster Days

We have calendarised Taster Days for entry at Years 7 and 9. These take place as follows: 

• In the Autumn Term for pupils joining us the following September.  
• In the Summer Term for pupils joining us just over a year later.

Individual Taster days

we can arrange individual Taster Days tailored to your child’s needs. We work closely with you to ensure that your child is placed with peers they’ll enjoy being with and can participate in activities they love. On the day, children will enjoy a school lunch, meet teaching staff, and engage with other children in their year group.

Reception 

Prospective pupils can join us in the Autumn Term with their parents for taster sessions. This will be followed by transition events that we offer over the year. These help children familiarise themselves with the school and teacher and ease the transition from Pre-school. 

Year 1 – 2 Entry 

Individual pupils join the class for a day and experience lessons and activities prior to joining us. These days take place throughout the year. 

Year 3 Entry 

We offer an exciting opportunity to discover life in Year 3.  If you are considering Year 3 for your child for September 2023 please come and join us for one of our Taster Days, see here for upcoming dates. Please email admissions@altonschool.co.uk to register.  This is an opportunity for your child to have fun with new friends and get to know our school a little better. The children will take part in some fun activities including exciting outdoor fun and challenges in our wonderful grounds. 

We also offer individual Taster Days throughout the year should a pupil wish to join Year 3 midway. 

Year 4 – 6 Entry 

Individual Taster Days can be arranged for pupils throughout the year. 

Year 7 Entry 

We offer two Taster Days, the first will be whilst a pupil is in Year 5 and will take place in the Summer Term and this will be followed by a further one once the pupil has moved into Year 6.  This will take place in the Autumn Term. 

Year 8 – 10 

Individual taster days are offered according to when families are considering joining the school whether in September or mid-year. A pupil will join their current Year group to give them an experience of life at Alton and the opportunity to meet other pupils.
