Joining in Year 7

By the time a pupil joins us in Year 7, they will have had the opportunity to join us at our taster days and open events, helping them to become more familiar with us and our Community.

Settling in

Every school is different. Moving from Prep School or Primary to Senior School can seem quite scary to a child simply because Senior Schools tend to be bigger, you move around a lot more from class to class and you do so much more for yourself. At this new stage there is much anticipation and excitement about new friends, new subjects, new teachers, new buildings, new challenges.  However, it is perfectly natural that pupils will be anxious too. This could be about being late or lost, having the right book or equipment for the right lesson, friends, homework, not knowing what to do if there is a problem and who to talk to.  This is a new experience for everyone and even those who come from the same school will make new friends. By the end of the first two weeks, the worry about making friends will be a distant memory. Your child’s tutors and all the staff at Alton School will help your child settle in and make sure their starting experience is a great one.

At Alton School we will work hard to make sure that a pupil’s time with us is happy and successful. We are committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all our pupils. Pupils will always come first and they can always ask for help or share your concerns.

Beginning of Term Orientation Day

Year 7 pupils will start a day before the rest of the school in the Autumn Term.  This is an opportunity to meet their tutors, have a look around the school and familiarise themselves with where things are before the whole school returns.   Pupils will be issued with their locker and peg.  We will help them set up their device on the school network, if this has not been done already in the school holidays.

At Alton School we prioritise getting to know our pupils. Helping them develop and grow and adjust to life in a Senior School.  We make sure everyone feels included and is stretched and challenged in the appropriate way for them.

All Year 7 pupils will be invited to join our Year 7 Residential to an activity centre which takes place over a weekend within the first term.  Pupils will have an exciting activity-packed weekend and begin to form strong friendships with their peer group.

We have a very comprehensive Parent Handbook that is given to all parents before a pupil joins us and hopefully this will answer any questions you may have.
