Senior School Sport

Senior School Sports at Alton School

At Alton School, we offer a wide range of core sports for our Senior School pupils. These sports not only provide the opportunity to be part of a team but also enable pupils to learn more about themselves under pressure, challenging both their bodies and minds. We understand the transformative power of a positive sporting experience, which fosters a lifelong love for sport and exercise and brings benefits that extend far beyond the sports field or court.

Our Commitment to Participation and Excellence

Our Senior School pupils don’t just participate; they excel. They regularly secure victories not only in local fixtures but also in regional and national ISA competitions. The success of our sporting program is grounded in inclusivity. We believe that the involvement of as many pupils as possible, not just the school’s top athletes, is essential for the well-being and health of all our pupils.

Up until Year 11, we expect all pupils to take part in our team sports and represent the school if selected. By the time they reach Years 10, 11, and the Sixth Form, pupils have more choices regarding the sports or activities they want to pursue.

We field A and B teams regularly, and in many age groups. Whether you’re an aspiring athlete on a sport scholarship program or simply looking to enjoy sports recreationally, the Sport Department at Alton School is committed to inspiring and motivating our pupils to thrive, flourish, and gain confidence through sports and physical activity.

Year-Round Sports Opportunities

We offer a diverse range of sports throughout the year, including netball, football, hockey, swimming, and equestrian during the winter, and rounders, cricket, and athletics during the summer. Competitive sports are open to both boys and girls, and fixtures are scheduled to accommodate pupils interested in multiple sports.

Inclusivity and Variety

We encourage participation at every level. A teams are fielded in all competitive sports, and B teams are available for children who want to compete competitively. Our goal is to enable all pupils to have fun, whether competing or enjoying sports during curriculum time or ideally, both.

Our Dedicated Sports Department

Alton School has four specialist PE staff with expertise in netball, hockey, football, badminton, cricket, and athletics. Additionally, we have a resident tennis coach who provides year-round coaching. Our popular equestrian club operates year-round, as does our Dance club.
