Our next show will take place on Sunday 13th October 2019. Thank you to all of those who have entered. It looks like it will be a busy day. We have tried to accommodate as many of you as possible. Please ensure that you are ready to jump at your allotted time. We look forward to seeing you on Sunday.
Alton School has a thriving Equestrian Team which caters for everyone and aims to develop and showcase every pupil’s individual talent. We have many success stories with Scarlett and Sienna Charles jumping internationally and winning medals for team GB, Poppy Foster qualifying for the Shetland Grand national Finals at Olympia, and Emily Devlin wining the Sunshine Tour Championships at Hickstead.
For those who own their own horse or pony, we hold regular training sessions with Olympic eventer MJ Tumbridge. These focus on flatwork and jumping; with particular attention given to rhythm, balance and straightness. We aim to give everyone the chance to compete, and regularly send teams to competitions at local and National level. We are members of the NSEA and recently qualified for the arena eventing championships at Hickstead. Alongside our NSEA commitments, we like to hold our own competitions and have become renowned for hosting friendly, encouraging and well organised shows, with excellent prizes. These give everyone a chance to compete, from the grassroots rider jumping 30cm, to those at the top end jumping 1.10m.
Our Equestrian Club runs every Thursday evening, and this gives those who don’t own a horse, an opportunity to develop their riding on safe, well-schooled ponies and horses at Greatham Equestrian Centre. We have enjoyed watching many of our pupils develop from complete beginners, into confident riders who have gone on to develop their passion by acquiring their own horses. More recently we have developed an Equestrian League, whereby we invite other schools to join us in a team competition hosted at our riding stables. This gives all of our pupils a chance to compete and experience riding in a show situation, and include team dressage and show jumping. Many schools across the South have shown an interest in this and we hope to develop similar matches at a range of venues.
