Sixth Form go to Krakow

By Published On: January 23rd, 2024

Some of the Sixth Form have recently returned from their visit to Krakow. The city is a UNESCO world heritage site, and when blanketed in snow it is truly beautiful. Whilst our visits included the stunning Wieliczka salt mine with its intricate carvings and ice skating in Jordana park, the trips’ main purpose was to further our understanding of the events surrounding the Second World War and specifically the Nazi occupation of Poland. As well as exploring the Jewish quarter and experiencing Schindler’s factory museum we also visited Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest concentration and death camp. This was a day for reflection on the atrocities of the Holocaust which truly was a sobering occasion.  As our Sixth Former Benjamin shared in our Holocaust Memorial Day assembly this week

“One thing I learnt on our visit is that you do not go as a tourist but as a witness, a witness to genocide and to make sure history does not repeat itself.”
