Preparing for the Future
In June 2017 we announced a major programme of investment and exciting developments at the school designed to ensure that we remain a great school for generations to come. The key areas of investment are detailed in our booklet ‘Preparing for the Future, Investment and Development Plan’ which is available to download from our home page.
Below are the letter and supporting Q&A document that went to parents at the time of the announcement.
The new logo develops the original and historic emblems by drawing together the 4 key ‘pillars’ of the school and the community of our Lady of Providence.
The Crossed Anchors
Symbolise a place of safety and security and also have Christian significance. When Christians were hiding in the catacombs of Rome, they couldn’t risk using crosses as a religious symbol, so appropriated anchors as an alternative. Saint Paul writes ‘we have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure’ (HebVI19)
The Star of Bethlehem
At the top of our emblem represents Jesus’s incarnation, God giving his Son to the world through his mother Mary.
The ‘M’, ‘D’, and ‘P’
This monogram stands for ‘Mater Divinae Providentiae’. The ‘P’ is central to the emblem as it is the idea of ‘providence’ that is at the heart of our school ethos and tradition.
