Alton School

All parents and other supporters of the school are assumed to belong to the PTFA.  Successful education always involves a partnership between home and school and we are delighted that the PTFA at Alton School volunteer enthusiastically to organize events that strengthen this partnership.  Its committee meets once or twice a term and the purpose of the PTFA is to enable parents to meet one another and also to raise funds for purchasing non-essential items to enrich the educational experience of students.

In previous years funds have been directed towards an outdoor playground, two minibuses, a grand piano, the refurbishment of the old Marian Hall (now the Refectory), the resurfacing of the tennis courts and, more recently, supporting the school’s 75th Anniversary Appeal.

To better enable communication between parents there is a Class Representative volunteer in each class who maintains their class contact list, communicates information and requests for help from the PTFA and each other (coffee mornings, mislaid PE kit, etc). In the Prep School the Class Reps take it in turns to hold the Friday cake sales, a proportion of the proceeds of which may be donated to a chosen charity.

The committee organises the annual PTFA Summer Fete and assists with the School Christmas Bazaar.  Other events range from our popular bi-annual quiz nights, to race nights, fashion shows and celebration Balls.  There is also a thriving second hand school uniform shop.  The committee is not, however, a communication forum between the school and parents and is not involved in the running of the school.

Joining the PTFA is your opportunity to make new friends and support the school. If you would like to know more or wish to offer your help then please contact the Chairman, Mrs Frances Thompson,
