Senior Sports Day Report

With the grounds looking amazing the scene was set for a wonderful day of athletics last Friday.   Each pupil wore their house colours with pride and as the starting pistol echoed out over the field, the hurdles began and set the high sporting tone for the day.

Many personal achievements were fought for; year and school records broken, the year seven boys setting their very first records and hundreds of medals proudly presented to the sporting masses. In total 10 records were broken.

  • Eve Maher is the new year 8 200m record holder
  • Charlotte Prince now holds the new record for the Year 10 80m hurdles (and school record)
  • Jemima Hodges is the new Year 8 record holder (and school record) in 800m
  • Emily Killing jumped 4 metres 37cm and not only broke the Y10 long jump score but set a new school record.
  • By far the biggest record breaker of the day came in the high jump, where Rose FitzGerald jumped an incredible 1 metre 42cm, she is the new Y9 record holder and the new school record holder.
  • Lara Bassett equalled the Y8 high jump score.
  • In the throwing events Sienna Cowle is the new record holder in the shot for the Y8’s but also now holds the school record and she also has the new Y8 record for the javelin.
  • Chloe Harrison also broke the shot putt record in Y9.
  • In year 7 Sasha Roberts broke the year discus score with a throw of 16 metres 64cm.

It was an incredible day for records to be broken, considering the very hot conditions. Alton School has had a fantastic season of athletics and our final awards go to those pupils who have produced wonderful performances throughout the term.

  • The Y7 girls’ athletes of the year are Safiya Husain, Emma Boyson and Sasha Roberts
  • The Y7 boys’ athlete of the year is James Lester
  • The Y8 athlete of the year is Jemima Hodges
  • The Y9 athlete of the year is Rose FitzGerald
  • The Y10 athlete of the year is Emily Killing

The Victor Ludorum Award for outstanding athletics achievement throughout the season goes to Jemima Hodges (Y8) and Rose FitzGerald (Y9).

The Lisa Roberts Trophy for dedication, determination, effort and team spirit goes to Jess Rendall (Y9)

An amazing day and thank you to all who took part.
