The Greatest Show Senior School Music

What an apt title for the contributions from the senior school music department for open day! The world of musical theatre, film and entertainment was suitably represented with items that created a buzz and excitement all around.

The obvious connection with the title resulted in numbers such as ‘The greatest Showman’ medley (senior orchestra) and the songs ‘Never enough’ (junior choir) and ‘A million dreams’ (chamber choir). Further film tributes came from the senior orchestra with ‘Jurassic Park’ and ‘City of Stars’. The junior choir gave a slick choreographed rendition of ‘If I only had a brain’ and the chamber choir a beautiful nostalgic setting of ‘Feed the birds’. Smaller ensembles were represented by the string quartet, band, and the year 10 ensembles in renditions of Money, money, Uptown girl, An awkward duet, Pompeii and two songs by the a capella group Pentatonix. Providing contrast to the large and small ensembles were two excellent solos on a dance theme, Charlotte Netherway (oboe) with a Habanera and Jessica Stephenson (harp) with a Passacaille.

The ‘grand finale’ involved all the pupils from both schools gathering to sing the famous ‘This is me’ with its uplifting mood. A huge thank you to all involved and putting up with many hours of rehearsals!
