U13 ISA National Hockey Tournament 2018

The magnificent venue of the Olympic Park was the host of the U13 ISA National Hockey Tournament. The U13 team were very excited to have the opportunity to play in such a wonderful environment. Their opening game against Holme Grange was a very competitive encounter with both sides creating opportunities to score. Izzy Clarke in goal for Alton put in an outstanding performance saving anything that came at her unbelievably, Eve Maher opened the scoring within 10 seconds. However, Holme Grange equalised and the result was a 1-1 draw. Lingfield College were the next opponents, this match too was very equally balance with both teams going full out attack, this match also finished 1-1. Alton’s final group match was a must win game if the team were to progress through to the cup. Alton created many goal scoring opportunities in their final group match against Queen Ethelburga’s, however the ball was just not going in. Unfortunately, the game ended in a 0-0 draw and Alton were then into the plate competition.

Alton’s performance in the afternoon was phenomenal in the three games they played they scored 17 goals and they won all three matches, during these matches Amber Robinson and Daisy Harrap both made a positive contribution. Alton had qualified for the Plate Final and their opponents were Ipswich High School. This proved to be a fantastic final with Alton creating many opportunities, Jemima Hodges beat defender after defender but her shots at goal were saved by Ipswich’s excellent keeper. After a wonderful series of passes by Alton Lara Bassett drove into the deep and cracked home the opening goal. Alton were then on the defensive, with midfield being held brilliantly by Cadi West and Alton’s captain Issy Rendall. Sweeper, Sienna Cowle cleared away any attacking play by the opposition with accuracy and power. Alton kept out their opponents and came away being ISA National Hockey Plate Champions.

A truly fantastic day was had by all, many thanks to all the parents who came and supported, they did witness some outstanding hockey and the team spirit was exceptional.
