Musical delights on Open Day

Large ensembles, instrumental soloists and choral ensembles transformed the Welsford Hall into a hub of musical activity.

After a spirited performance from the Senior Orchestra, our string quartet charmed with classical elegance followed by Boogie Woogie for two double basses and two cellos – Mrs Maher gave her first public performance on double bass! This was followed by solo contributions on oboe, trumpet, piano, cello, violin, voice, saxophone, voice and our year 9 flute trio. After the carnival procession, parents and pupils joined us for further entertainment provided by the Junior Chamber Choir (Year 7 and 8 pupils), Chanteurs (Year 5 and 6 pupils), the Chamber Choir and Senior Choir. Annabel Hanssen gave her final performance at Alton School with her moving rendition of ‘Send in the Clowns’.

The morning’s musical activities were concluded with our Senior Choir joined by staff and parents singing ‘Hail holy Queen’ – a fitting tribute to the foundation of our wonderful school. Some tears were shed by our year 13 girls who have contributed so much over many years to the musical life of the school.
