Alton claim double victory at U13 District Netball tournament
What a wonderful afternoon the Year 8 A and B teams had at the district Netball tournament yesterday! Both teams claimed top spot in their respective competitions after an afternoon of hard fought netball. The A and B teams have been working hard all season in the league and their determination and commitment finally paid off.
The A team started their tournament really well with easy wins over Wavell and St Nics. It enable them to get their game settled and flowing and for the shooters to get their eye in. Oddly for this time of year they actually had some sun to contend with too! Next up was Bohunt so they had to move up a gear. Alton really began to play some attacking netball and it really paid off. Their skill level was exceptional and the ball was moving fast down the court leaving it to the shooters just to pop it in. Another win and on to Farnborough Hill, again another relatively easy win. Their next opponents was Weydon Academy. This ended up being their toughest game but beautiful controlled play meant a win of 9-5, ending Weydon’s unbeaten record. A final easy game against Hawley Hurst awarded them a thoroughly deserved tournament victory.
The B team also started the tournament well. They have been playing in division 1 in the league all year due to winning Division 2 last year so it has been a tough season of netball for them but this showed their improvement yesterday. A nervy first game against Courtmoor initially but once the shooters had scored one or two they relaxed and starting dominating the game. Further games with Robert Mays and All Hallows B resulted in more wins. Then came Farnborough Hill B. Both teams had won all their games so this was crunch time for our B team. They did Alton proud by holding their nerve and scoring when needed. A great win put them to top of the table which just meant they needed wins against Calthorpe Park, Yateley and Wavell B which they duly did! What a result for them, once again tournament winners.
To win one of the tournament pools is hard enough but to win two in one afternoon shows the commitment and progress these girls have made. Huge congratulations to both teams.
